05:01 pm - Disco Inferno I got my CD of Saturday Night Fever today! (Once upon a time I had the album, but years, lovers, and moves caused the loss of it).
I'd forgotten how much I loved that soundtrack. Nonie bird and I sang and chirped and danced our way through it. What fun! (Beird, being much more sedate, merely watched us).
Long live 1977! Current Mood: chipper

funny you should mention this...
about ten years ago, I worked a job that did CD pressing for independent artists. I was on the front-end of that, doing customer service, nothing real interesting. Anyway, one day I get this really nice lady on the one end of the phone, wanting to talk to one of the product specialists, and I mentioned something offhand about either Pulp Fiction or the song Disco Inferno or the Bee Gees. Anyway, the woman on the end of the phone says, "Oh, so you've seen Saturday Night Fever, huh?" Replying in the positive, I asked her why. She says, "I was IN that movie. I'm Karen Lynn Gorney!"
I don't even know if you can call that a brush with fame, but all of my brushes with fame are of this lame type. Seeing Gilbert Gottfried hail a cab in New York, being at a comedy event 5 feet away from Debra Wilson (of MadTv fame), talking to Karen Lynn Gorney and getting on her mailing list, even stalling Harry Connick Sr (yes, apparently Harry's dad is ALSO a musician, but nearly as famous as his son) while trying to find his account representative.
I hope one day to be minor-league famous so I can brush up against somebody's aura, who'll give reports just as lame as I've given.
Do the Hustle!

You are a DE-LIGHT! I'm so glad you're on my flist!
Thank you, and I'm glad to be here! Yay!
I do have to report that Karen Lynn Gorney was indeed very nice, and actually, still active in the acting world, despite being mostly a footnote in massive pop culture history for Saturday Night Fever. I've seen her a few times on Law and Order, and I secretly smile each time I see those reruns.
Oh, and speaking of L&O, I know a few actors from Philly who are seemingly CONSTANTLY playing one-off characters on that series. More "lame brushes with fame".
that's got a ring to it... if I write a book, that's what I'll call it "Lame Brushes With Fame, by Matt Lydon"

I'm a big L&O fan (write fanfiction for the show-- (for my sins). Wish I'd known to look for her. Maybe catch her sometime in re-runs.
I'm a huge Bee Gees fan - love that soundtrack :-) And cool, lydonwrites what a great story.

Bee Gees Rule!
Two things we have in common! L&O and Bee Gees. Of course, proof of excellent taste.

I believe there's one other thing: Neither of us are enthused about the primary party candidates.

I thought of one other thing--we both love the X Files. Who knew we had so much in common?
:-) Who knew indeed? I didn't know you were an XF fan.

The reason I knew you were is because when I was posting about how excited I was that the long awaited X files sequel was finally here, woffproff commented that you were, too. |
